When you publish vector data in a WFS service, clients can request its features in one of the vector formats listed in the service capabilities. By default, the supported vector formats include:

GML

GML is the default output format used by a WFS, if no output format is specified. The LuciadFusion WFS server supports GML 2, 3.1.1 and 3.2. The server automatically chooses the GML version based on the used version of the WFS protocol:

  • WFS 1.0.0: GML 2

  • WFS 1.1.0: GML 3.1.1

  • WFS 2.0: GML 3.2

GeoJSON

The GeoJSON output format allows clients to retrieve WFS features encoded as GeoJSON. This format is especially suited for web clients such as LuciadRIA. To request GeoJSON, clients specify one of the supported GeoJSON output formats in the outputFormat parameter of a GetFeature request: outputFormat=application/json or outputFormat=json.

SHAPE-ZIP

The SHAPE-ZIP output format allows clients to retrieve WFS features encoded as a zipped ESRI Shapefile. The zip archive contains the Shapefile and its companion files (.shp, .shx, .dbf, .cpg, .sbn/.sbx and .prj), named after the requested feature type. To request it, clients specify outputFormat=SHAPE-ZIP in a GetFeature request.

You can also add your own vector output formats to a LuciadFusion WFS service. For more information, see How to add your own vector output format.
